LONG ISLAND GULLS ROAR TO U16 TITLE WITH 6-1 WIN OVER MID-FAIRFIELD

The top-seeded Long Island Gulls finished off an impressive Fall season in solid fashion, taking home the 2023 Beast League championship with a 6-1 win second-seeded Mid-Fairfield.

The Gulls had advanced to Sunday's title game with a quarterfinal win over the Avon Regals, 5-1, and a semifinal conquest of the Neponset River Rats, 4-1.

In the final, the Gulls held a 3-1 lead late in the contest before blowing it open with three late goals.

Jesse Orlansky got the ball rolling with the first goal of the game, followed by first half strikes from Nicholas Sykora and Marko Lusica.

A Jack Kennedy goal closed the margin to 3-1 with under five minutes to play, before Cooper Dennis got a huge goal for the Gulls to restore the three-goal advantage.

Orlowsky scored his second of the day, into an empty net, and then Ethan Wyttenback added another for the 6-1 final.

* The Long Island Gulls beat the River Rats 4-1 in a semifinal matchup to advance to the 16U Championship. Poul Anderson got the scoring started for the Gulls, but the River Rats tied it on a goal by Michael Munroe. Brendan DeFeo extended the Gulls lead to 2-1 late in the first half and then two early second half goals by Malachi McKinnon and Nicholas Sykora sealed the win for the Gulls.

* In the second semi-final matchup in U16, Mid-Fairfield took down the New Jersey Rockets 5-1 to advance to the Championship against the Gulls. Mid-Fairfield picked up right where they left off as they scored three times in the first by Luke Dow, Oliver Czaja and George McCaffrey. With the score 3-1 heading into the second half, Ryan Hedley and Carter Johnson each scored to extend the lead to 5-1.

* In a quarterfinal matchup between the New Jersey Rockets and Boston Hockey Academy, it was the Rockets that came away with a 5-1 victory. They held a 1-0 lead heading into the second half when they scored four unanswered goals by Kristopher Richards, Daniel Hussa, Jackson Accardi and Matthew Dabrowski to put the game away.

* The Neponset River Rats 16U blanked the EC Militia 1-0 in a quarterfinal matchup Saturday at Rodman Arena. John Donohue got the only goal the River Rats needed with the assist going to Jake Assad. AJ Levy was strong in net as he earned the shutout.

* In a close back-and-forth battle, Mid-Fairfield National came out on top against the Yale Jr. Bulldogs National. It was a wild first half as six goals were scored between the two with Mid-Fairfield leading 4-2. The Bulldogs got two goals by Indiana Grossbard and Tyler Roccas in less than a minute in the second half to tie the game at four. Ryan Hedley was the hero as with the clock winding down his short-handed goal gave Mid-Fairfield the 5-4 win.

* The Long Island Gulls advanced to the semifinals with a 5-1 win over the Avon Regals. The Regals scored first, but the Gulls followed that up with five unanswered goals by Marko Liscia, Ethan Wyttenbach, Cooper Dennis, Poul Anderson and Jesse Orlowsky to complete the comeback.

U16 GOLD

The New Hampshire Mountain Kings win the U16 Gold Championship with a 4-1 win over the New Jersey Titans.

Aidan Gile was the hero as he had a part in every goal. Gile scored three and added an assist on Ashton Farrell’s second half goal to give them the big win.

* The New Hampshire Mountain Kings took down the Springfield Thunderbirds in a 16U Gold Semifinal. The Thunderbirds got on the board first on a goal by Henry Hao, but the Mountain Kings followed that up with three goals by Grant Sexton, Corbin Lowry and Aidan Gile to take a 3-1 lead. The Thunderbirds got one back late in the second on Dillon Shea's strike, but the Mountain Kings held on for a 3-2 win.

* New Jersey Titans National advanced to the 16U Gold Championship with a 3-1 win over Atlantic Coast Academy. The Titans got goals from Peter Morris, Nicholas Kasich and Alexander Nurhan in the win and a great outing in net from Peyton Milli.

U16 SILVER

The Connecticut Chiefs Split club won the Beast League U16 Silver crown after a 4-2 over the Yale Jr. Bulldogs

The Connecticut Chiefs Split wins the 16U Silver Championship with a 4-2 win over the Yale Jr. Bulldogs Showcase team.

The Chiefs started out strong with four first half goals.

John King scored two while Nicholas Garilli and Colton Bischoff had the others. The Bulldogs got two back in the second half from Yahav Barak and John Davis Stem but couldn't get any closer. A great performance in net by Kyle Kundrath helped seal the win.

* In a U16 Silver division semifinal, the Yale Jr. Bulldogs Showcase beat the Connecticut Chiefs Full 2-1. Camden Lathrop scored first for the Bulldogs and Shepard Dobecka followed that up with a goal from the Chiefs to tie the game at one. Both goalies were superb as the score held 1-1 into overtime. Joe Morwald Jr. was the hero as he scored an unassisted goal to send the Bulldogs to the championship.

* In the second semi-final matchup in the U16 Silver division, the Connecticut Chiefs Split beat Mid-Fairfield Showcase 3-2. With the score locked at one after the first half, John King and Colton Bischoff each scored for the Chiefs to put them ahead 3-1. Jack Marisca scored late for Mid-Fairfield to make it 3-2, but the Chiefs held on for the win.
