U13-U16 HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE RIVER RATS JAMBOREE

Action was fast and furious as the Beast League opened up 2024 play at the recent River Rats Jamboree.

Here are some highlights:

U13

In some U13 action during the River Rats Jamboree, the Long Island Gulls beat the Woodbridge Wolfpack 3-1. Down 1-0 heading into the second half of play, the Gulls scored three unanswered goals by Ethan Nelsen, Brayden Dean and Francesco Mannino to take the win. Brian O’Reilly was solid in net for the Gulls.

U14

In the U14 division, the Northeast Generals snuck by the East Coast Militia 4-3. With the game tied at three apiece early in the second half, Jayden Nangle scored the game-winning goal with assists from Seamus Connolly and Leyland Benoit to give the Generals the win.

The 14U River Rats blanked the Long Island Gulls 3-0 in a well-played game. Carter Felt, John Queally and Colin Walsh all scored for the River Rats and William Gwaltney had the shutout in net.

The Long Island Gulls got their first win of the season beating the East Coast Militia (Chighisola) team 4-1. Nicholas DiMarco had a hat trick for the Gulls and James Fox also scored. Theokritos Petropoulous Jr. scored for the Militia.

In a great team battle, the U14 River Rats and the East Coast Militia (Chighisola) skated to a 3-3 tie. The River Rats jumped out to a 2-0 lead but Thomas Rourke cut their lead in half when he scored for the Militia. The Militia tied it up early in the second on an unassisted goal by Cole Tapper, but Ryan O’Neill quickly gave the River Rats back the lead. Late in the second, James Johnson scored for the Militia as the game ended in a tie.

U15

The East Coast Militia U15 group earned a solid 4-1 win against Boston Hockey Academy. Nolan Devito and Patrick O’Reilly got the Militia off to a 2-0 start with goals in the first half. Jack Cannon scored twice in the second for the Militia to give them the big win.  

U16

In a battle of two good teams, the Long Island Gulls National shutout the Yale Jr. Bulldogs National 5-0. The Gulls had five different goal-scorers in Aleksei Zhukov, Sean Miller, David O’Brien, Kevin Lysohir and Owen DeGraff. Yaroslav Alpatov was stellar in net for the Gulls.

The U16 Northern CT Nor’Easter blanked the East Coast Militia National team 3-0. Jacob Jett scored twice and Rusell Kelleran also scored. Elliot Lennon was solid in net and earned the shutout.

In other U16 action, Boston Hockey Academy beat the Yale Jr. Bulldogs National 6-3. Down 1-0 early in the first, Boston Hockey Academy exploded for four unanswered goals, two by Bexultan Makysh, Timothy Wang and Ryan Walsh to make it 4-1. Wang and Samuel Courtemanche each added one more in the second half.

In a tight battle, Mid Fairfield U16 National snuck by the Neponset Valley River Rats 4-3. Maddox Boyle scored for Mid Fairfield early in the first, but the River Rats followed that up with two quick goals by Cam MacPherson and Will Manchuso. Ethan Travis made it 3-1 early in the second before Mid Fairfield scored three times on goals by Owen Burke, Tim Donahue and Joseph Gannon to regain their lead and win.
